Let’s talk about the importance of protein for a minute. Protein is a vital macronutrient we need to consume every day for the health of our body. It’s responsible for not only supporting and maintaining muscles, but also for the proper function of every other cell in the body.
Protein is a combination of amino acids, those that are essential (must be consumed) and those that are non-essential (that the body can make). A complete protein must contain all 9 essential amino acids (histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phyenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine). Getting adequate COMPLETE protein is an important part of a healthy diet.
How much protein do we need?
This is often a topic of conversation with many of us. According to National Institutes of Health, depending on your age, activity level, and protein quality, the daily grams of protein can vary dramatically.

The International Society of Sports Nutrition recommends people who exercise consume 1.4 – 2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. One kilogram is approximately 2.2 pounds. So if your weight is 150 pounds that is approximately 68 kilograms, which would mean, according to ISSN, you should consume about 68 grams of protein per day.

What about the source of protein? Does it matter?
Yes! One of the most ideal protein sources is whey protein. Whey protein has a complete amino acid profile, with both essential and non-essential amino acids. What makes whey protein different from plant protein are 2 important components, immunoglobulin and lactoferrin. These are not found in plant protein sources. Whey protein concentrate also contains the fat, cholesterol, lactose, and casein that would be normally found in dairy. Some people experience digestive issues with these components or do not want the calories or cholesterol added to their daily diet.
Enter whey protein isolate. In a whey protein isolate the “unwanted” components are removed. This process can be done several ways, but one of the best ways is through filtration rather than with chemicals or a heat process. If done properly, filtration will provide an undenatured (not altered) product.
Biochem 100% Whey Protein Isolate is an ideal protein to incorporate into your daily diet. Providing 20 grams of undenatured, dual filtered whey protein isolate per serving that is 99% lactose free, GFCO Certified Gluten Free, vegetarian, soy free and from grass-fed cows this whey protein is an excellent options to help you achieve your daily protein requirements.
